”Relapsing back into old thought patterns and negative episodes happens to the best of us. We think, ’I was in such a good place. I was doing so well. I was just starting to feel good about myself again.’ And then boom the right combination of circumstances can quickly trigger us into a downward spiral. But here’s the thing. It’s not about never having a negative thought again or being completely rid of these trials. That’s an unrealistic expectation that will shame us every time we fall short. It’s about understanding that life will be both: the good times and the hard times. Thus understanding that you can always start over, start your day over. It’s about gaining the tools along the way so that we better understand how to cope with each overcoming. If you’ve found yourself in a negative thought or at any point, instead of shaming yourself for where you are, use this moment as an indicator to begin asking yourself, ‘what do I need to take care of myself right now’? And then have grace for the process.”
